Dr. Bruno’s graduate research at Johns Hopkins University focused on the mechanisms of hormones and endocrine disruptors in myocarditis (inflammatory heart disease). Dr. Bruno continued studying myocarditis during her postdoctoral fellowship at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, focusing on new diagnostics (biomarkers and imaging) and therapeutics for acute myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy. Dr. Bruno is experienced in basic and translational research, working with cell culture, animals, and patient samples. In addition to her role as an NIH and AHA-funded tenure track Assistant Professor studying novel models and mechanisms of both pediatric and adult myocarditis, Dr. Bruno is also a Co-Investigator on several internally funded grants and is site PI on a Cardio-Oncology DoD grant. Dr. Bruno has volunteer roles in several healthcare-based non-profits in order to personally connect with the people who are affected by myocarditis and is involved in leadership for several scientific organizations.
